Day 10 after Transplant

Me being cosseted by my family

Martyn relaxing at home after donating his kidney

Martyn has been home for 5 days and he is looking good but obviously very tired and tender. As a live donor it will take a few months for his remaining kidney to get up to a normal functioning rate able to do the job for the kidney he chose to donate.  On my return home from hospital two days after him (day 7) I found a great role reversal between him and my son Peter. It is now Peter restricting his dads activities, he has become incredibly responsible in stepping up to the task as our carer and Mart has regressed into being a naughty boy, complete with hoodie. When i first arrived home and flaked into the sofa exhausted and relieved to be home Martyn restrained himself for all of two minutes, said excitedly "do you wanna see my scar then?" and lifted his t-shirt to reveal his battle scars. My response was " Does it beat this?" and lifted my nightie to reveal my rather impressive scar saying "can we do this later, ive just got in the door"

I was desperate to come home, even more so after Mart left hospital before me. So i came home on day 7 post Transplant and my healing seems to have really started since then. I have loads to say and we managed to document it throughout which I will do in my own time. But what I do want to say is that the renal staff at the Manchester Royal infirmary (MRI) are exceptional, compassionate and skilled. Although this was a much bigger operation and event than I had ever imagined, they, as well as my family and friends made the whole experience bareable and doable. I will keep blogging but night night for tonight Trace x
