Operation Day early morning on the ward.

Wednesday clinic Day.1st February 2012

Tea and toast at 6.30am so that I can take some meds before we head of to the MRI.Crucial to get there 8am as the amount of clients through this clinic is phenomenal.

Mart bright and cheerful at 6.3oam.Hes tired and it will take about three months for his remaining kidney to increase its function to compensate for the kidney he donated to me. Its expected he'll regain 80% of his kidney function.

Peter 'the carer' and partner in mischief minding the wheelchair in clinic.

Weight stabilizing ,Drs said the kidneys doing well and I've 45% kidney function at the moment...amazing that'll more than do for me.Got a cough so coughing has hurt my stitches, but little to complain about. I think this is the most compliant I have ever been in my life. I'm sure the clinic think I'm rounding up my fluid balance but have explained to them I have an 'engineers' kidney which in true form pees to the line! No point five of a pee in my jug!

Operation Day;Wednesday18th January 2012
Had to get used to this procedure.
Mart 7am on op morning
Hes putting on a brave face here!
Waiting to go down to theatre.
Yep they really do use a magic marker!
That belly's holding my chance at wellness!
Think this captures how unwell I've become pre op.

Video of Mart talking about how he feels. The laughter at the end is when I asked him what he had to say to me and right on cue at that moment one of his neighbours broke wind very loudly!

  1. Those undies do nothing for your street cred Martyn, hope you didn't bring them home with you !! Very funny video you looked calm and heroic as usual.
By the way did the man shouting help in the background manage to escape ?
Both of you keep well and 'keep on rockin'.
